Lizards and lenses…

I was fortunate enough to be loaned a big box of Olympus goodness a while ago.It has just had to go back, but in the 2 months I had it, I managed to do a pretty good job at putting it through its paces.

I shot a ton of video with it during the filming of the Okto Cup over a couple of weekends, and the 5-axis sensor-shift stabilisation was amazing. Hand-held footage was buttery-smooth and cinematic.

Testing it for stills was more my forte though, and many a mate was cajoled into running around like a loon so I could test the tracking and AF abilities... as I grew more familiar with the system, the images definitely got better too.

On an early morning wander through local park, that's when I got my most favourite image with it though... The little Changeable Lizard, sitting quietly amongst the leaves. Using the fantastic 40-150mm f 2.8 (80-300mm, 35mm equivalent) I was able to stay a non-disturbing distance away, but zoom in tight enough for his best-angle profile shot. Shooting wide open at f2.8, the background is crushed to a gorgeously smooth even green blur, isolating my little subject with a distinct clarity. I hope he likes his new profile image. I certainly do!
